Job Purpose:
St. Agnes Academy seeks a Technical Director to serve the Department of Performing Arts and oversee its production season in our state-of-the-art 63,000 sq. ft. performing arts facilities featuring a 1300-seat proscenium auditorium, flexible black box studio theatre, dance studio, and scene shop. This is a new, key position in the school’s celebrated performing arts program.

Incorporate prayer and spiritual formation within the student, faculty/staff, and parent communities.

The main responsibilities will include:
Teach one stagecraft course
Supervise all student construction and technical work for performances in the season (currently two musicals, one play, and various dance and music concerts)
Collaborate closely with the Director of Fine and Performing Arts, Performing Arts Department Chair, Directors of Theatre, Music, and Dance as well as administrative staff as needed on all performances and events.
Work with and oversee the work of the AV-IT Technician in connection with productions in Meyer Hall
Specific duties include:
Organization and maintenance of all theatre equipment
Managing and maintaining the scene shop
Scheduling student workers and overseeing practicum hours
Ensuring safety in all technical activities
Overseeing production and maintenance budgets
Creating production calendars and build schedules
Supervising and mentoring students using tools, materials, rigging, lighting instruments, and those operating technologies such as tech consoles
Hiring and supervising over hires
Creating scenic and/or lighting design(s) for performances
Other duties as deemed necessary by the Director of Fine and Performing Arts, Principal, or Head of School
Qualifications:
Commitment to embrace the mission of St. Agnes Academy
A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required; master’s degree preferred.
Significant experience in technical direction for musicals, plays and dance at the professional and/or academic level is required.
The successful candidate will be proficient in current trends in scenic technology and demonstrate skill and experience in carpentry, scenic painting, theatrical lighting, metalworking and welding, budget management, CAD drafting, rigging, etc.
Experience teaching in an independent school and/or an all-girls environment a plus
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
Professional attitude and appearance
Completion of Safe Haven training
