Oversee the student use of the sculpture studio, which includes: metal shop, wood shop, CNC router, and student work stations. Ensure adherence to University safety protocols and help to maintain a clean, well-organized shop environment with fully functioning equipment. In addition, act in a supervisory role for all other nighttime undergraduate studio monitors (to include, but not limited to, conducting rounds of each studio space once per shift, assisting monitors with situations that require authoritative action or support, informing security guards of safety concerns, etc.)
The Safety Coordinator will also serve as a point person providing support to student monitors and the 6 studios under their supervision. The Safety Coordinator will be working with students hands on by demonstrating techniques, etc.
This position is 25 hours a week and the incumbent will work Sunday 3:30pm - midnight; Monday -Wed 6:30 to midnight.
Education and Experience
Associate's degree and 3 years of experience, or equivalent combination of experience and education
Experience in a variety of fabrication techniques;
E.g. woodworking, metalworking, assemblage, maker space.
Knowledge of and experience with a wide variety of wood and metal shop equipment;
E.g. table and band saws, routers, drill presses, welding and manual cold metal shop tools, as well as hand-held power tool
Strong interpersonal skills to ensure meaningful interactions with student monitors and be a resource for them, balanced with the ability to act in a disciplinary/authoritative capacity when the need arises
Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.   Â

The Safety Coordinator must successfully complete the required Brown University âœHazardous Waste Management Training, Hazardous Communication and Emergency Action Plan Trainingâ by no later than the 4th week of the semester.
